image The California Public Employees› Retirement System (CalPERS) earned an estimated 19.1 percent return on investments for the 12 months that ended June 30, 2007 – the highest gain in nearly a decade — to total $247.7 billion. The percentage gain more than doubled the overall CalPERS assumed rate of return of 7.75 percent, which is required to fund retiree benefits. Total assets increased by $36.5 billion over the year.
